Jakarta, December 15, 2016 - PT ANTAM (Persero) Tbk (ASX – ATM; IDX – ANTM; ANTAM) is pleased to announce the company’s commitment in the implementation of good mining practice from its exploration, mining and post-mining activities is illustrated yet again through the signing of the Regional Grant Agreement (NPHD) between ANTAM and the Regency Government of Lebak. The agreement by signed by ANTAM’s Operations Director, Agus Zamzam Jamaluddin and Lebak Regent Hj. Iti Octavia Jayabaya, S.E.., M.M., on 13 December 2016 in the Office of Lebak Regent, Banten Province. Under the NPHD, ANTAM transferred the Drinking Water Supply System (SPAM) which is previously part of the of Cikotok post-mining.
ANTAM’s Operations Director, Agus Zamzam Jamaluddin said:
" As a company with more than 4 decades of experience, ANTAM is committed in the implementation of good mining practice throughout its activity. We have revitalized and transferred the SPAM which is previously part of the Cikotok gold mine. We are confident the facility will be beneficial to the community. "
Under the Cikotok Mine Closure Plan (RPT) which is approved by the Regency Government of Lebak, the assets of the former Cikotok gold mine assets are to be fully utilised for public benefits. The revitalization and the SPAM hand over from ANTAM to Lebak Regency demonstrates the implementation of the public benefit policy. The revitalization has increased the water discharge capability from 6 to 10 liters per second. Following the revitalization, the facility is capable to increase water connection from 400 homes to 800 to 1,000 residential in the surrounding area of Cibeber District, Lebak, Banten.
The Cikotok gold mine was one of seven entities which were merged into ANTAM on July 5, 1968. In 1936, the gold mining activities in Cikotok was started by a Dutch company, Naamloze Vennootschap Mijnbouw Maatschappij Zuid Bantam. The activity, however, was halted in 1939 due to World War II. During Japanese occupation, a Japanese company named Mitsui Kosha Kabushiki Kaisa conducted black tin exploration at the Cikotok region to support its war purpose. After Indonesia's independence in 1945, the mine was supervised by the Bureau of Indonesian Mines of the Republic Indonesia. The mine was then transformed into a state-owned enterprise at the end of 1960.
The Cikotok gold mine entered post mining phase in 2008. On January 2016 ANTAM officially ceased post mining activities following approval by the Regency of Lebak, Banten based on the Regent’s approval dated December 11, 2015.
