Water and Air

Water is an essential resource for ANTAM’s operations. Therefore, the Company always strives to utilize water efficiently and reduce the use of water from raw water sources. The goal is to maintain clean water flow around the operational area so as not to disturb the environmental balance.

With several efforts to ensure that the water used does not impact the availability of clean water for communities around the operation, ANTAM fulfils the Groundwater Exploitation Permit and Water Use Permit (SIPA). The Company also maximizes water from sediment ponds, recirculation results, and recycling for production needs. Moreover, there is a public consultation mechanism before the issuance of the surface water SIPA license at the West Kalimantan Bauxite Mining Business Unit, thus the local community already understands that there are company activities related to the use of surface water.

As an effort to prevent air pollution caused by its operations, ANTAM also monitors non-GRK emissions consisting of Nitrogen Dioxide (NO2), Sulfur Dioxide (SO2), and other particulates produced. In addition, ANTAM has identified and conducted an inventory of fugitive emissions from cooling units and industrial gases used in operations.

ANTAM strives to keep these non-GHG emissions always below the applicable Quality Standards in accordance with the Minister of Environment Regulation No. 4 of 2014 concerning Quality Standards for Emissions from Non-Mobile Sources of Mining Activities, hence to maintain environmental balance and not disturb the community around the operation.
