One of PT ANTAM Tbk (“ANTAM”) business units, the Kolaka Nickel Mining Business Unit, has made various efforts to protect biodiversity. One of these is monitoring flora and fauna every first half and coordinating with the Center for Standardization and Services of the Plantation Products, Metallic Minerals, and Maritime Industry Services (BBIHPMM). The full results of the monitoring are listed in the Monitoring Report on Terrestrial Fauna and Marine Life.
The Kolaka Nickel Mining Business Unit has implemented several programs to support biodiversity protection; among others is RAHA ELAPO, 'The House of Growth and Development of Diospyros celebica Ebony, an Endemic Plant Typical of Sulawesi’. In the RAHA ELAPO program, the Diospyros celebica Ebony plant is conserved using the mulch method. This program makes the Kolaka Nickel Mining Business Unit a center for ebony conservation in Kolaka Regency. Through this program, Kolaka Nickel Mining Business Unit received the Environmental and Social Innovation Awards (ENSIA) 2024 organized by SUCOFINDO in the PLATINUM category.

ANTAM through the Kolaka Nickel Mining Business Unit also continues to innovate and support the sustainability of biodiversity protection. In 2024, the Kolaka Nickel Mining Business Unit also innovated biodiversity monitoring through digitalization in the RECOMASI: Real-time Ecological Health Assessment program on Casuarina equisetifolia Species in the Reclamation Area. This innovation aims to accelerate the evaluation process of plants in reclamation areas. This innovation allows plant conditions to be monitored in real-time, and improvements can be carried out as soon as possible. In addition, the Kolaka Nickel Mining Business Unit also developed a biodiversity protection program by involving the community in the community development program. This program provided sea pine (Casuarina equisetifolia) and mountain pine (Casuarina junghuniana) seedlings to SMA Negeri 1 Pomalaa. This program is expected to be a form of support from ANTAM Kolaka Nickel Mining Business Unit to the community's reforestation efforts around the operation area.

ANTAM Kolaka Nickel Mining Business Unit also makes various efforts to share knowledge. One of the efforts made was publishing an ISBN book titled Birds of Mining Areas in Southeast Sulawesi. The book, registered with ISBN number 978-623-495-286-5, was published in 2020. The various biodiversity protection efforts carried out by ANTAM Kolaka Nickel Mining Business Unit are expected to take place sustainably and provide the widest possible benefits for the company's internal and external environment.
