ANTAM Inaugurates The Historical Monument & Reliefs Of Bauxite Mining History In Kijang

Jakarta, May 7, 2011– PT ANTAM (Persero) Tbk (ANTAM; ASX – ATM, IDX – ANTM) is pleased to announce the inauguration of  the Historical Monument and Reliefs of Kijang Bauxite Mining History at Bintan Regency, Riau Islands.

Governor of Riau Islands Drs. H. Muhammad Sani, Regent of Bintan Ansar Ahmad, ANTAM’s Director of General Affairs & Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Denny Maulasa, ANTAM’s Director of Human Resources Achmad Ardianto, and the surrounding communities were present at the inauguration event.

The inauguration reflects ANTAM’s contribution to the communities of Bintan, Riau Islands as part of the island history. The monument and reliefs intend to celebrate the legacy to remember by many generations of ANTAM’s bauxite mining operations.

ANTAM’s Director of General Affairs & CSR, Denny Maulasa said:

"ANTAM’s bauxite mining activities at Kijang has a long history. We hope the monument and reliefs will serve as a history lessons specifically to the young generation at Kijang and to every  Indonesian youths."

The monument is represented with statue of a bauxite miner. The reliefs has a total of 18 relief sculptures, illustrating the history of  bauxite mining at Bintan. The reliefs start with the sculptures of the discovery of bauxite by the Dutch in 1920, bauxite mining activities from 1935 to 2010, and post-mining activities in 2011.

ANTAM ceased bauxite mining activities at Kijang, Riau Islands since 22 September 2009. ANTAM continues to conduct post-mining activities, such as land reclamation, revegetation, and CSR activities to restore the environment and accelerate the economic empowerment of local communities.
