ANTAM Plants 130,000 Trees On Degraded Areas Surrounding Mount Merapi

The ceremony conducted by ANTAM's Director of Operations, Winardi, together with the Director General of Forestry Planning, Ministry of Forestry of Indonesia, Bambang Soepijanto; Head of Forest Establishment Region XI Java-Madura, Totong Budiman; and Magelang Regent Singgih Sanyoto. The ceremony was held at Kaliurang Village, Magelang District.

The plantation activity was a collaboration between ANTAM and Yayasan Lebah Indonesia and a part of ANTAM's 1.25 million tree planting program in 2012, to support government's One Billion Tree Planting program. The activity is a manifestation of ANTAM's concern in improving environmental quality, encouraging the development and managing of farm forest through partnership with the community, and reducing environmental damages due to loss of vegetation on Mount Merapi area.

In this activity, ANTAM also engaged the community from 8 (eight) districts surrounding Magelang Regency, Central Java, in maintaining tree seedlings that have been planted. The trees planted are Sengon and Jabon, which are Fast Growing Species, as well as the Soursop and Sapodilla tree. ANTAM expects the fruit harvesting could also be benefited by the community. The tree seedlings will be maintained for 6 months to make sure the trees grow well.
