Jakarta, December 23, 2013 - PT ANTAM (Persero) Tbk (ANTAM; ASX - ATM; IDX - ANTM) on Saturday, December 21st, 2013, has planted 50,000 mangrove trees at critical areas in Rambut Island, part of the Thousand Islands region. The event was marked with handover ceremony of a mangrove tree by ANTAM's President Director, Tato Miraza to the Regent of Thousand Islands, Asep Syarifudin.
Rambut Island is one of the chain of islands in the Thousand Islands Regency, Jakarta province. With an area of 90 hectares, approximately 20 hectares have suffered damages caused by garbage and high abrasion.
ANTAM's President Director Tato Miraza said,
"ANTAM's commitment in the environmental management goes beyond our operational areas, covering also critical areas outside of our surrounding mines."
The program at Rambut Island aims to restore the ecosystem and increase the community awareness to preserve the natural conservation in region.
This program is also part of ANTAM's participation to support the government's One Billion Indonesia Tree (OBIT) program as well as to increase carbon absorption.
ANTAM is consistent in conducting natural conservation programs. In 2012, ANTAM planted 1.4 million trees with 2013 target of 1.5 million trees.
