ANTAM Preserves Cultural Heritage Through Batik Goes to School Program

Jakarta, Oktober 27, 2015 - PT ANTAM (Persero) Tbk (ANTAM; ASX - ATM; IDX - ANTM) is pleased to announce it has held the closing ceremony of the Batik Goes to School 2015 program. As part of the effort to preserve Indonesia’s cultural heritage, as well as its CSR program, ANTAM and its foster partner, Batik Handayani held the closing event at SMK Negeri 58 Jakarta today. The Batik Goes to School 2015 program commenced on October 6th.

ANTAM’s General Affairs and CSR Director, I Made Surata, said:
"As a cultural heritage, the preservation of batik to Indonesia’s youth is vital. Our Batik Goes to School program this year was held in Jakarta, with last year’s similar event held in Bogor in August. We hope the program can augment the awareness and appreciation of batik by Indonesian younger generation. The CSR program also receives support from the Ministry of Education and Culture of Indonesia."

The Batik Goes to School program in Jakarta involved 450 students from 15 schools, higher than last year with participation of 400 students from 13 schools. During the program, students learnt Batik Indonesia through in class training and hands-on practice. The training session was conducted by Ratna, a renowned batik artisan from Handayani Geulis Bogor-one of the ANTAM’s CSR foster partners. Handayani Geulis Bogor holds patents of several Batik Bogor motives.

On October 2, 2009, UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization) officiated Indonesian batik as a world cultural heritage. Batik Indonesia is seen as a cultural heritage for oral and non-material culture (masterpieces of the oral and intangible heritage of humanity).
