Jakarta, January 22, 2014 - PT ANTAM (Persero) Tbk (ANTAM; ASX - ATM; IDX - ANTM) today announces that the company has officially terminated its iron sands mining activities at Kutoarjo, Purworejo Regency, Central Java. The closing ceremony was attended by ANTAM's General Affairs & CSR Director, I Made Surata and Assistant of Economic & Development of Purworejo Regency Government, Gandi Budi Supriyanto, on January, 21, 2014.
ANTAM's General Affairs & CSR Director, I Made Surata said,
"After more than 25 years of operation, ANTAM officially terminates its mine closure activity in Kutoarjo as part of the good mining practice. It reflects ANTAM's commitment to provide optimal benefits for its stakeholders, from the opening of the mine until the end of mine life and post mining period."
ANTAM's iron sands mine in Kutoarjo was operated under Kutoarjo Iron Sands Mining Units. Production started in 1987 with post mining activity began in 2007. In November 2013 the Government of Purworejo Regency officially approved the termination of ANTAM's post mining activities in Kutoarjo.
During the post mining period, ANTAM conducted reclamation, re-vegetation and corporate social responsibility activities as part of the company's environmental management and acceleration of local economy initiatives.
ANTAM's programs were focused on enhancement of the capacity of farmers resource in integrated agriculture system, husbandry and fishery production as well as in joint venture, microfinance institution and cooperatives. ANTAM utilized LEISA (Low External Input Sustainable Agriculture) system by utilizing waste in the integrated agricultural development programs. ANTAM also assisted in the development of business group and cooperatives creation and during a pilot project of integrated farming system on sandy area.
These efforts aimed to enhance the local economic in Kutoarjo to establish a sustainable community welfare.
