ANTAM Signs MoU With Perhutani To Support The One Billion Tree Program

Jakarta, November 19th, 2010 – PT ANTAM (Persero) Tbk (ANTAM; ASX – ATM; IDX – ANTM) is pleased to announce that it has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Perum Perhutani at the Auditorium of Ministry of Forestry, Gedung Manggala Wanabakti, Jakarta. Minister of Forestry Zulkifli Hasan and Minister of State-Owned Enterprises Mustafa Abubakar were present during the ceremony which was held on Thursday, November 18, 2010.

Under the MoU, ANTAM dan Perhutani pledge to plant 125,000 trees with economic benefits at critical and desolated land at the West Java and Banten regions. The tree planting exercise is equal to 250 hectares of planted land. ANTAM and Perhutani expect the tree planting exercise will benefit the communities surrounding ANTAM and Perhutani operations. 

ANTAM’s President Director, Alwin Syah Lubis, said:
 
“The cooperation is part of our Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) efforts to preserve the environment and to support the government’s One Billion Indonesian Tree Program.“

The signing of the MoU will create synergy between ANTAM and Perhutani to support the government’s One Billion Indonesian Tree Program as well as to promote proper care of the environment.

The tree planting exercise is also part of ANTAM’s target to plant 550,000 trees in 2010.

ANTAM aims to take proper care of the environment. ANTAM’s Gold Mining Business Unit at Pongkor has obtained a Green PROPER rating, while ANTAM’s Southeast Sulawesi Nickel Mining Business Unit has obtained a Blue PROPER Rating. PROPER is an assessment by the Indonesian Ministry of Environment of a company’s environmental management as well as the community development.
