Bogor, March 12th, 2012 - PT ANTAM (Persero) Tbk (ANTAM; ASX - ATM; IDX - ANTM) launched an initiative to plant 100,000 trees at deforested areas at Cisarua, Bogor, West Java, on Saturday, March, 10th, 2012. ANTAM’s Operations Director, Winardi, Secretary General of the Ministry of Forestry, Dadi Haryanto, Vice Regent of Bogor, Karyawan Faturahman and the Head of Advisory Board of Yayasan Lebah Indonesia, Suprapto were present during the ceremony.

ANTAM’s Operations Director, Winardi said:

"This program reflects our active participation in conserving the environment, notably on deforested areas. Our participatory strategy in this initiative shows our commitment in establishing a partnership with the environment and communities."
ANTAM has allocated Rp300 million and will cooperate with Yayasan Lebah Indonesia (YLI) on the implementation of the program. YLI will provide sengon (Albazia Falcataria) seeds and assists in the planting and  maintenance of the trees. The 9-month program will also involve the participation from the surrounding communities.

The program aims to rehabilitate deforested areas and to build public awareness on the importance of trees planting to reduce the damage on critical and unproductive areas.

As the zero-point region of Ciliwung River, the Cisarua-Puncak region serves as a buffer zone to Jakarta and its surroundings to prevent flooding. As such, trees planting at the region is crucial.

Nature conservation is a regular program within ANTAM's CSR initiatives. In 2011 ANTAM planted more than one million trees in the surrounding areas of ANTAM’s mine sites and other deforested areas in Indonesia.
