ANTAM Supports Fishermen in North Konawe to Increase Income and Preserving Underwater Ecosystems

Jakarta, February 10, 2023 - PT ANTAM Tbk (“ANTAM”) through North Konawe Nickel Mining Business Unit initiated the construction of Floating Net Cages in Tapunopaka Village, Lasolo Islands District. This activity aims to encourage the economic independence of Tapunopaka Village community members who mainly work as mine workers. 

"The initiation of the Floating Net Cage program is designed holistically where in the future will implemented together with the environmental program, namely coral reef conservation. ANTAM always carries out operational activities with due observance to community empowerment around the operational area in a sustainable manner," said ANTAM's Corporate Secretary, Syarif Faisal Alkadrie.

"Thus, the potential of natural resources in Tapunopaka can be managed and developed properly to provide a multi-effect impact. The community empowerment programs are expected to become role models for other sustainability programs," he added.

The number of community beneficiaries of this program is around 20 families, which was carried out by doing communal work. This program is expected to increase real income and contribute directly and have an increased effect on the economic activities of fishing groups and communities in Tapunopaka. In addition, this community empowerment activity can contribute to the preservation of underwater ecosystems in the long term.
