PT ANTAM Tbk West Kalimantan Bauxite Mining Business Unit (ANTAM West Kalimantan Bauxite Mining Business Unit) is one of ANTAM’s business unit in bauxite mining is fully aware of the risks and impacts of the Company's production activities on the environment. Realizing this, ANTAM West Kalimantan Bauxite Mining Business Unit committed to environmental management as a manifestation of corporate responsibility related to the environment and biodiversity protection. To implement the Company's commitment to protecting biodiversity, ANTAM West Kalimantan Bauxite Mining Business Unit conducted a study for the inventory of biodiversity in the Bukit Belungai Protected Forest area included in the area of Forest Management Unit (KPH) of West Sanggau.
Bukit Belungai Forest is a protected forest area located in Balai Belungai Village, Toba District, Sanggau Regency, West Kalimantan. This forest area is included in the KPH Unit V working area, UPT-KPH West Sanggau Region. Bukit Belungai, which has a peak with an altitude of ± 713 meters above sea level, holds a wealth of flora and fauna species as well as other abundant natural potentials.
The dominant species of flora include tengkawang (Shorea gysberstiana), rubber (Hevea brasiliensis), Durian (Durio zibethinus), Nyatoh (Palaquium rostratum), and Sanggau (Bhesa paniculata). Nek Bindang Protected Forest area, with an area of 4 Ha, has a total biomass value of 4,922.40 tons with an average of 1,230.60 tons/Ha and has produced a carbon stock of 2,313.53 tons with an average of 578.38 tons/Ha. With the diverse flora species composition and high density, the protected forest has excellent potential to absorb CO2 in biomass and carbon storage. The various types of plants in Bukit Belungai Protected Forest as a shelter and place to feed finding has an impact on the existence of wildlife. There are 64 species of animals consisting of 2 types of mammals, 22 species of birds, 25 species of herpetofauna (12 amphibians & 13 reptiles), and 15 species of insects. In addition, there are endemic species of Kalimantan herpetofauna, namely Limnonectes paramacrodon, Leptobrachium abbotti, Staurois guttatus, Meristogenys jerboa, and Triopidophorus beccarii.
